Research in education

How do we prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow? Research feeds today’s education, while students are the researchers of tomorrow. Without critically minded students, there is no new generation to take European issues forward. Research and education therefore go hand in hand. But how do you connect the two effectively?

Why education?

Europe is facing major societal challenges, from climate change and housing to security and economic resilience. These issues also affect the Netherlands, increasingly at local and regional level. European legislation and policy play a growing role in this. At the same time, we see that it is not always easy for public authorities and organisations to organise and apply this European dimension effectively.

At European Impact, we study how European decision-making works and how public authorities and companies can engage with it more effectively. We use this knowledge directly in our teaching. We believe Europe becomes stronger when professionals not only understand what happens in Brussels, but also how they can influence it and translate policy into practice.

From classroom to practice

European Impact connects research and education in several ways. We provide education at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where students are introduced to ongoing research and learn to work with European policy issues. In courses such as Applied Research Skills, students develop research skills that are directly applicable in professional practice.

In addition, we offer internships and research placements for students who want to deepen their understanding of European policy processes. We also provide courses and training for public authorities and organisations. In this way, knowledge does not remain in the classroom, but reaches the place where it makes an impact: in practice.
